Summer Activities for the Kids
Walk out the front door for a short hike
Turn right out of the driveway and walk up Black Hawk Circle, turn right onto Golden Eagle Rd and walk uphill for 3/4 mile, turn right on Amica Ln and see the Eagle’s Nest Trailhead on your left. Stroll along the Eagle’s Nest trail walking up a gradual incline on a nice, easy gravel trail. [jogging stroller or baby backpack]
Find the secret lake – Rainbow Lake
Take HW9 South to Dillon, turn right onto Dillon Dam Rd continuing around the reservoir. At the stoplight, turn left onto HW9 South towards Frisco/Breckenridge, turn right on Main Street, turn left on 2nd street. Follow 2nd street until it dead ends into a dirt parking lot. Take the dirt trail towards Rainbow Lake. You will walk on a boardwalk, continue through the forest and arrive at the lake after a mile of walking. [baby backpack]
Dillon’s amazing playground
Take HW9 South to Dillon, turn right onto Dillon Dam Rd, immediately turn left onto La Bonta then right onto Lodgepole St. Drive a minute to arrive at a huge playground, the Dillon amphitheater and the Dillon marina. [bring your camera]
Swim at the Rec Center
Take HW9 South for a mile, look for a sign for the rec center, turn left at the stop light towards the police station, turn right and see the rec center parking lot. Rec Center info [bring towel and lock, $6 entry fee]
Ride the Gondola at Vail
Take I70 West to Vail, exit West Vail and follow signs to Lionshead. Park at Lionshead (free during the summer), walk through Lionshead village towards the Gondola. Buy lift tickets ($20/person, free with ski pass) and take the Gondola to the top. This area is called Adventure Ridge, there’s a ton of stuff for the kids and you can hike around for great views. There’s a restaurant with outdoor seating making it easy to enjoy lunch or a beer with the kids running around. [baby backpack, camera]
